Community and Knowledge: Recapping the Mountain Readiness Spring Event

The first weekend of May brought us to the VanHoy Campground in Harmony, NC, for the Mountain Readiness Spring Expo. From May 1st through May 3rd, the outdoor community gathered for a weekend defined by shared wisdom and exceptional camaraderie. Situated conveniently just off Highway 77, the venue offered easy access for attendees traveling from across the region to participate in this unique gathering.

Perfect Spring Weather

We couldn't have asked for better conditions for an outdoor expo. While the mornings carried a crisp, refreshing chill, the rain held off entirely, allowing for uninterrupted classes and comfortable browsing through the vendor areas. The clear skies set a perfect backdrop for the diverse range of activities and camping setups scattered across the grounds.

A Hub for Learning and Growth

Education is the heartbeat of Mountain Readiness, and this spring was no exception. There were plenty of high-quality classes taking place throughout the facility, led by trainers who brought a wealth of practical knowledge to their sessions. Whether you were interested in primitive skills, modern survival techniques, or homesteading, there was an expert ready to share their expertise.

The Spirit of Camaraderie

One of the most rewarding aspects of the event was the sense of community. It was wonderful to catch up with familiar faces we’ve met at previous events and equally exciting to forge connections with new friends. The atmosphere was incredibly helpful, with attendees and instructors alike sharing tips, ideas, and experiences. This shared spirit of preparedness and mutual support is what makes this event so special.

Exploring the Marketplace

The vendor area featured an impressive array of quality products. Beyond just selling gear, the vendors offered deep product knowledge, helping attendees find exactly what they needed for their specific outdoor or preparedness goals. We were proud to be among them, showcasing our setup and engaging with everyone who stopped by.

Life at the Campground

The diversity of the attendees was reflected in the wide variety of camping styles on display. We saw everything from massive 5th-wheel trailers equipped with all the comforts of home to primitive camping setups and folks sleeping in their vehicles. The VanHoy Campground accommodated everyone, providing essential facilities like hot showers and restrooms, while food trucks and coffee vendors kept everyone fueled throughout the weekend.

Overall, the Mountain Readiness Spring Event was a resounding success. It was a weekend filled with good people, great times, and invaluable learning. We’re already looking forward to our next visit to Harmony.
